Canine Therapy, Gloucestershire

Musculoskeletal maintenance can help keep your dog young at heart and active.

Dogs often display a natural exuberance that seems to suggest infallibility. But even they can suffer from the common aches and pains that are familiar to many of us. Regularly releasing muscle tension can reduce stresses and wear within the body, and improve general wellbeing. This is true whatever age your dog, and whether they are a family pet, a show dog, or a working or competition dog.

I use the Emmett Technique as musculoskeletal maintenance to help your dog stay comfortable, young at heart, and active.

Signs of discomfort

Signs that your dog may be feeling stiff or discomfort can sometimes be very subtle, and can also include changes in behaviour. You may notice your dog:

  • is slower when out on walks

  • is less enthusiastic to walk

  • sits or lies in an unusual posture

  • barks more than usual.

How I can help

If you have concerns about your dog’s comfort or health, it is important to first rule out any serious illness or injury; this can only be diagnosed and treated by a qualified veterinary surgeon. For this reason I will always make contact with your vet before I first visit your dog, and ask for his/her consent to me using this technique.

Whatever the cause of your dog’s discomfort, the relaxing effects of Canine Emmett can be beneficial. I also like to help:

  • immediately after dental work to ensure there is no tension in the Temporomandibular joint

  • during times of stress

  • during recovery from injury, to support correct posture at this important time

  • whenever you feel that your dog is generally ‘out of sorts’.
