Standing Calf Release
Release tension from your lower leg …
The calf muscles run down the back of the lower leg, and act to flex the ankle as you point your toes.
These muscles are heavily used by horse riders, especially when standing in the stirrups. Keeping them free from tension will enable better control of leg aids.
We can target individual muscles within this group by turning the leg just as we do for the Hamstring Release. When the toes are pointed inwards, we target muscles located more towards the inner part of the leg; when the toes are pointed outwards, we target the muscles located more towards the outer part of the leg.
