Standing Awareness

‘Tune in’ and reconnect with your body.

‘Tune in’ and reconnect with your body.

Over time, our brains learn to filter out proprioceptive awareness (body awareness) just as they filter out the background noise in a busy restaurant.

This exercise helps us to ‘refresh and reboot’, training our brain to regard proprioceptive awareness as a priority that should not be ignored.

Use this at the start of every session to develop a better awareness of the sensations within your body. This will lead you to regain better control of your muscles, which in turn will lead to better balance and coordination.

Use this at the end of every session to become aware of the improvements associated with releasing muscle tension. As you learn to recognise the new positive corrections to your posture and movement you will start to look out for it on a daily basis, and spontaneously adopt the new in preference to your old, unhelpful, habits.

As you regain more control over your body, your balance and coordination will improve, and you will be able to refine your aids and improve that vital link of communication with your horse.
